Follow my blog with Bloglovin This lovely woman is my mom, and there are a few things you should know about her.
To start, she is amazing! She’s a giving person, she’s incredibly genuine in everything she does or says, she’s tough- like really tough, she’s passionate about her work, she’s deeply loved by her husband & children, and I, personally, believe she’s the best mom ever! My mom has had a lot of great moments in her life and a lot of hard moments. One of her hardest was her fight to defeat cancer- I told you, she’s one tough cookie!
Another thing you should know about my mom is that she, like a lot of women, struggles with her self-image. When I was growing up my mom would constantly hide behind the camera. When she was in front of the camera she’d usually look away or cover her face. In the rare photograph that she didn’t, she’d later cut herself out of the image. Because of this, I have very few photographs of my mother.
As a daughter, I know that my mother is beautiful. As a photographer, I know that the reason why she hasn’t liked her photos in the past is because the photographer failed to photograph her in a way that was complimentary.
One day I decided to change that! I planned a luxury portrait session for my mom. I set her up with a professional hair & make up stylist, assisted in selecting clothes that would flatter her in a photograph and guided her throughout the shoot.
When my mom saw her portraits for the first time she was left speechless. She literally had no words-this was a first! After she carefully studied each photo, she’d looked at me with disbelief in her eyes. A few moments later with eyes shimmering with unshed tears, she whispered, “I can’t believe that’s me!” My mother finally has a portrait of herself where she sees herself as beautiful.
And I finally have a lovely portrait of my mother to cherish always.
